Make Your Voice Heard

Parents have a right to know what their children are being taught and to raise concerns when classroom materials promote political, ideological, or activist viewpoints rather than balanced instruction.

To help parents engage constructively with education leaders and policymakers, we've developed three customizable letter templates. These letters are designed to serve as a starting point and can be adapted to reflect your specific concerns, school district, and circumstances.

Before sending a letter, we encourage you to engage the school leaders by phone or request a personal meeting, review the curriculum or lesson materials carefully, cite specific examples, and maintain a respectful, solutions-oriented tone. You may find that the outcome is better when you personalize the letter to your/your child’s specific situation. Start from a place of goodwill and give the school administrator the benefit of the doubt that he or she is acting in good faith. At the same time, keep in mind that you/your family are the “customer” in the relationship with the school.
